Anti-Drone Netting for Oil & Gas Facilities and Storage Tanks
Passive physical protection for storage tanks, refineries, process units and loading areas. MAISHI nets intercept and slow drones at a stand-off distance from the asset, as the physical layer of your counter-UAS plan.
Why oil and gas sites add a physical net layer
Storage tanks, process units and loading racks are large, fixed and high-value targets. Detection and electronic countermeasures are essential, but they cannot guarantee that every drone is stopped, especially drones that ignore RF jamming or fly autonomously.
A passive net needs no power and emits no signal. It keeps working around the clock and adds stand-off distance between an incoming drone and the asset. That is why asset owners and EPC contractors increasingly specify a physical barrier for their most critical equipment.
Works when electronics are bypassed
A net does not depend on jamming or GNSS disruption, so it remains effective against fiber-optic guided and autonomous drones.
No hot work inside the hazardous area
Nets are supported on independent frames outside the tank shell, so the protected equipment is not modified.
Modular and repairable
Panels are joined with lacing rope, so a damaged section can be replaced on site without dismantling the system.
Typical protection concepts
| Asset | Typical concept | Recommended MAISHI products |
|---|---|---|
| Floating and fixed roof storage tanks | Square or polygonal steel frame around the tank at a stand-off distance, side nets on all faces and a top net on a cable grid | MS-SN knotted side nets, MS-SN knotless top net; AD-500 System for heavier threats |
| Process units and compressor stations | Overhead canopy on columns and catenary cables, with side screens where required | AD-500 System or MS-RP steel rope net, MS-WR cable set, MS-COL columns |
| Loading racks and jetties | Overhead canopy with clearance for loading arms and vehicles | MS-RP steel rope net for durability and fire safety |
| Control rooms and electrical buildings | Roof-level canopy and side screens, kept clear of antennas and sensors | MS-SN or AD-500, depending on the threat definition |
| Long perimeters and pipeline corridors | Linear perimeter screens and overhead sections at critical points | MS-SN knotted perimeter nets on posts and cables |
Every layout is confirmed against the site plan, the threat definition, wind loads and the available stand-off distance. Final structural and foundation design is verified by your local structural engineer.
Synthetic or steel: how we choose the net
Synthetic capture nets
Light, economical and fast to install. Suited to small drones and FPV craft, large side screens and temporary protection. UV-stabilized and flame-retardant grades are available.
Steel rope nets
Non-combustible and highly durable. Preferred where fire exposure, heat or long design life matter, such as loading areas and coastal terminals.
AD-500 System
A double-layer steel net system with energy-dissipation rings for larger, heavier and faster UAV threats at the most critical assets. Engineered per project.
What MAISHI supplies
- Net panels cut to your layout, with edge rope and lacing rope
- MS-WR main, perimeter and grid cable sets, cut to length
- MS-EDR energy-dissipation rings and MS-HW hardware kits (shackles, turnbuckles, clips)
- MS-COL steel columns, or column specifications for local fabrication to reduce freight
- Layout drawings, panel lists and installation guidance for your local installer
- Export packing, marking and container loading plan
Installation is carried out by your local contractor, using our drawings and installation guidance, with remote technical support from our team.

Frequently asked questions
Can you protect a storage tank without modifying the tank?
Yes. The usual concept is an independent steel frame around the tank at a stand-off distance, carrying side nets and a top net. Nothing is welded or fixed to the tank shell.
Which net should we use for an oil and gas site?
It depends on the drone you need to stop and the fire and heat exposure. Synthetic MS-SN nets suit small drones and large side screens; MS-RP steel rope nets suit hot or fire-exposed areas; the AD-500 System is used for heavier UAV threats. We recommend a configuration after reviewing your threat definition.
Do you supply the columns and foundations?
We supply nets, cables, energy-dissipation rings and hardware, and can supply steel columns. For long sections it is often more economical to fabricate columns locally from our specification. Foundations are designed by your local structural engineer.
Do you install the system?
Installation is carried out by your local contractor. We provide drawings, panel lists, installation guidance and remote technical support.
What information do you need for a quotation?
Tank diameters and heights or a site plan, the number of assets, the threat definition (drone type, weight, speed), the required coverage (top, sides or both) and the destination port.
